a simple new back door

A simple new back door.   That's all I wanted.

The back door into the boot room is a stable door.  Its old, painted white and badly marked  from where dogs have been scratching at it.  The frame is wood painted black and is quite rotten. It lets the wind in.  It's not draught proof and I don't know where the key is.

So ,  I decided we needed a new back door.   Actually this is the door into what will be the new laundry room on the side of the house.  So before the kitchen and laundry room  gets fitted we need to get this door sorted.

Although its at the back of the house it the door we mostly use.  So i would like a attractive door with a glass top.   After perusing many door catalogues,  visiting showrooms. and trawling the internet.  I opted for a composite door.

The door catalogue said it was ''manufactured using the latest materials and most innovative engineering techniques. You can customize with your choice of colour, door furniture and decorative glass. Whichever composite door you choose, it’s guaranteed to bring enduring style to your property''

That what I want I decided.  So we got a door company to come out and measure us up.

Once again Lanoy tripped us up and put my great plans on hold.

I hadn't .. even after 5 years of living here, noticed that the mains power cable supplying electric into the house which spanned the lane from the pole to the house came in through the wooden frame of the door.

So now we have to wait for Western Power to visit , survey and remove the cable and re fit  it through the wall....

In the meantime the electrician came today to move the light switch inside the back door and also fit the electrics for the laundry room.  The light switch was attached to a wooden surround framing the actual door frame.  We had to move the switch and remove the wooden surround in order for the new door frame to be fitted.  So we prized off the wooden surround only to find a large void between the door frame and the end of the wall.  Well I'm guessing it wasn't originally a large void but a piece of timber between the wall and the doorframe.  Said peice of timber is now just  a pile of worm dust with expanding foam sticking it all together.  So.  yet one seemingly simple job has now lead onto a more tricky job.

I cant fit the laundry room cupboards and worktops until the hole is filled.  i cant fit the door until the hole is filled.  I cant fit the door until Western Power move the cables... and my kitchen is diarised to be fitted at the end of the month .......will it ever happen?

ho hum nothing is ever easy
