''Scaf ' lin '' as they say in Cornwall

from the Oxford English Dictionary:
''Scaffolding''
A structure of  metal poles and wooden boards put against a building  for  workers to stand  on when they want  to reach  the higher parts  of the building

or  ''Scaf ' lin''  as they say in Cornwall

''Stevie , the planks and poles have arrived !! ''

I know just how to wind him up.... I know its not planks and poles really....its boards and tubes..
thats the proper teminology for scaffolding,  but its still planks and poles to me :)  planks to walk on...poles to climb up.....

The weather today has been dry...I  would even go so far as to say its been rather sunny.....but having checked the weather forcast again..its set for heavy rain again tonight.   My buckets have been drip free all day..but i suspect come 7pm we will be on roof patrol again.    Roof patrol consists of examining every room for new drips.  First looking at the floor checking for wet patches, then scrutinising the ceilings, looking for dark blotches appearing or drips forming .  Once a drip has been identified a bucket is placed underneath.  We can gauge the weather outside by the frequency of the drips inside.   One drip at a time means its raining. Drip drip drip in close sucession means its really, really raining.  Where as  a constant bead of water running  down the wall means its blowing a complete hoolie as well as a  torrential monsoon out there.

So, anyway.  some  scaffolding has arrived today in anticipation of roofers arriving tomorrow and  making a start and getting well into it next week .  Mike the roof man says they wont take long for the slates  to be removed...he reckons they will fall off in his hands.   More scaffolding is arriving tomorrow, and Saturday i will be making bacon butties  and numerous cups of  tea  keeping the men fed and watered whilst they battle the elements and erect the scaffolding all around the building.

Stevie plumbed the washing machine in yesterday and after 3 fuses blowing we mananged to get a load of washing done which Stanley dried nicely overnight.  He is so useful..and to think we were going to scrap him... he heats the radiators, supplies hot water, cooks our dinner and dries the washing..

Jo
